Wailings of Red Light District (Krishna Ahir)

A pretty girl walks down the street

I give her a contemplative sneer

She runs back down the alleyway

She knows that her place isn’t here

The foggy haze surrounds my face

Smoke from my trusty cigarette

It entices you and hides the lines

Of age etched in my featurette

Let me drown my sorrows

In the liquor of your lies

Tell me falsehoods all night long

This lusty Spector in your eyes

Forgetting isn’t easy

When the truth is all around

In the shadows of the darkness

And in every subtle sound

Let me hide a while

In the safety of your bed

I won’t think about tomorrow

While I’m laying here half dead

The only thing that I’ve forgotten

Is the way things used to be

Before my life went straight to Hell

Before that girl turned into me
